Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (Cardiology Stepdown) position in Albany, GA, requiring at least 2 years of stepdown experience and the ability to read and interpret telemetry strips.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting in a 44-bed Cardiology Stepdown unit (4A/4B)
- Unit 4A focuses on cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery patients; Unit 4B manages smaller procedures, drips, and CHF patients
- Common diagnoses include post-op CABG, fem-pop bypass, thoracotomy, VATS, EVAR, AAA repair, carotid endarterectomy, stents, pacemakers, ablations, AICD, CHF, and A-fib with RVR
- Patient ratio is 1:5 with Nurse Aide support at 1:10
- Telemetry monitoring using Philips equipment; nurses are required to read and interpret strips
- Common drips include Cardizem (titrated), amiodarone, dobutamine, dopamine (renal dose), Lasix, Bumex, heparin, Primacor, and Vasopressin
- Ventilatory support includes BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, and high-flow oxygen (no full vents)
- PICC team, RT, and pharmacy are available 24/7; hospitalist/intensivist is in-house 24/7
- Night shift, 4x12-hour shifts (6:45 PM start)
- Every other weekend required
- Floating to ICU is possible; travelers without ICU experience will be assigned stepdown-level patients only, or may be asked to assist with tasks in the ICU

Requirements
- Active GA RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of stepdown experience in an acute care setting required without exception
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
- A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration
- Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility (measured to the address on their driver's license) to be eligible
Additional Information
- Cardiology stepdown unit with high patient turnover — average census of 32–38 patients, with 12–16 discharges and admissions on a busy shift
- Ability to pull pacer wires is preferred; orientation to the skill will be provided if needed
- Floor-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts
- Holiday flexibility is required, including coverage on and around assigned holidays
- Dress code: Caribbean Blue scrubs; natural hair color required; no fake or shellac nails, no facial piercings, and no visible tattoos
- Candidates who have been employed by this facility within the last 12 months are not eligible for placement
- Any time-off or scheduling requests must be submitted prior to the start of the assignment
