About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Audit Associate to join our growing tax practice in Columbia, SC. This is a unique opportunity to work on sophisticated tax matters, with a particular focus on captive insurance structures, in a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality tax services to a diverse client base, with opportunities for mentorship and career advancement.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare and review complex federal and state income tax returns for a variety of entity types, including corporations, partnerships, and individuals
• Provide technical tax analysis and advisory services related to captive insurance arrangements, including feasibility studies, structuring guidance, and ongoing compliance
• Research and analyze federal, state, and international tax issues; draft technical memoranda and client-facing communications
• Assist in the identification of tax planning opportunities and risk mitigation strategies for clients
• Collaborate with senior professionals and partners on complex engagements, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery
• Stay current on legislative and regulatory developments impacting captive insurance and related tax matters
• Mentor and provide guidance to junior tax staff as needed
• Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication and responsive service
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; Master's in Taxation (MST) or JD/LLM in Taxation strongly preferred
• CPA license required (or actively pursuing licensure)
• 2+ years of public accounting or law firm tax experience
• Demonstrated experience with captive insurance taxation is required
• Strong working knowledge of federal and state income tax compliance and planning
• Excellent research, analytical, and written communication skills
• Proficiency with tax preparation and research software (e.g., GoSystem, CCH Axcess, BNA, RIA Checkpoint)
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset
