Job Description: Cashier / Front of House Team Member

Position Summary

The Cashier at Taqueria Zorro is the face of our restaurant. This role is responsible for delivering friendly, fast, and accurate service while creating a welcoming and energetic guest experience. The cashier ensures every guest feels valued, every order is correct, and every interaction reflects our standards of hospitality.

We are a high-volume, fast-paced taqueria in North Beach serving locals, tourists, families, and the late-night crowd. Professionalism, positivity, and attention to detail are essential.

Key Responsibilities

Guest Service & Hospitality

• Greet every guest within 5 seconds with eye contact and a smile

• Provide knowledgeable recommendations and answer menu questions

• Upsell responsibly (add guacamole, drinks, chips, etc.)

• Resolve guest concerns professionally and escalate when needed

• Maintain friendly, upbeat energy during busy periods

Order Accuracy & POS

• Enter orders accurately into the POS system (R Power)

• Confirm all modifications and dietary requests

• Repeat orders back to guests for confirmation

• Process cash, credit cards, and digital payments correctly

• Handle discounts and promotions according to company policy

• Maintain proper cash drawer accountability

Tip & Cash Handling

• Follow company tip distribution policy

• Complete end-of-shift cash reconciliation

• Maintain integrity and transparency in all transactions

Cleanliness & Organization

• Keep register area clean and organized

• Wipe down counters, menus, and surfaces regularly

• Restock napkins, utensils, beverages, and salsa station

• Maintain a clean dining area when needed

• Follow all SF Department of Public Health guidelines

Teamwork

• Communicate clearly with kitchen staff

• Call out orders properly and efficiently

• Assist with light prep or restocking when needed

• Support team during rush periods

• Maintain professionalism with coworkers at all times

Compliance & Standards

• Follow all company policies and employee handbook standards

• Clock in and out properly

• Follow break and meal period rules

• Maintain punctuality and professional appearance

• Wear proper uniform and maintain hygiene standards

Qualifications

• Prior restaurant or customer service experience preferred

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

• Strong communication skills (English required; bilingual Spanish a plus)

• Basic math skills

• Ability to stand for extended periods

• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
