Compensation: $60.00 – $65.00/hr | Potential Perm Salary: $120k – $130k
The Mission: Technical Authority & Program Leadership
On behalf of our client, a premier leader in telecommunications infrastructure, we are seeking a Senior OSP Design Engineer to serve as a high-level technical lead for a large-scale fiber network deployment.
This is a senior-level position for an engineer who has moved beyond routine design work and is ready to own the end-to-end quality and regulatory strategy for a major project. You will serve as the primary technical interface between the organization and third-party engineering vendors. You are the ultimate gatekeeper, responsible for the integrity of the network layout and the success of the permitting strategy. If you have the technical depth to mentor junior engineers and the negotiation skills to clear complex municipal permitting hurdles, this is your opportunity to drive significant impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Vendor Oversight: Manage third-party design vendors to ensure strict adherence to project specifications and engineering standards. You are the final authority on resolving complex engineering conflicts.
- Complex Design Validation: Perform rigorous QA/QC on high-level design packages, including network architecture, equipment placement, and complex fiber routing. You are accountable for the "constructability" of every plan submitted.
- Regulatory & Permitting Strategy: Lead the permitting process for municipal, county, and state agencies. You will be responsible for negotiating right-of-way access and resolving the most complex jurisdictional roadblocks that threaten project timelines.
- Field Expert Liaison: Conduct high-level "construction path walks" and route drive-outs. You must be able to anticipate field-level risks, utility conflicts, and safety hazards long before construction crews arrive.
- Mentorship & Governance: Provide technical guidance to junior engineering staff and serve as a consultant to internal leadership on construction methodologies and project risk.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 8–10 years of robust OSP experience. A proven history of managing the full lifecycle of fiber projects is required.
- Technical Mastery: Deep expertise in OSP design principles, network architecture, and NESC construction standards.
- Software Tools: Expert proficiency in BlueBeam is mandatory. Significant experience with industry-standard platforms (ArcGIS, AutoCAD, or similar) is required.
- Regulatory Expertise: A track record of navigating complex permitting environments with government and utility agencies.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional negotiation and communication skills. You must be comfortable presenting to government officials, HOAs, and senior internal leadership.
- Problem-Solving: Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve high-stakes engineering failures and route conflicts in real-time.
