Job Description
Degree in Physical Therapy, active Physical Therapist license and 1+ year of Physical Therapy experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Step into a rewarding contract role this summer and provide essential physical therapy support to students in a vibrant educational environment near Flushing, NY. Our Extended School Year (ESY) Program runs from July 6th through August 14th—a focused 6-week opportunity that makes a lasting impact.
You’ll work with a small caseload of 5 non-verbal students, delivering individualized physical therapy sessions once per week for 30 minutes each. Your expertise will play a vital part in supporting their growth, mobility, and educational experience.
Qualifications/Desired Experience:
- Current licensure as a Physical Therapist (PT) in New York State
- Experience in a school-based setting, preferably with students requiring adaptive communication or non-verbal support
- Strong understanding of individualized education plans (IEPs) and therapy documentation requirements
- Effective communication skills, collaborating with educators, support staff, and families
- Compassionate, patient, and creative in addressing each child’s unique needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct targeted PT sessions (1x weekly, 30 minutes per student) for 5 assigned students as outlined in their mandates
- Design and implement therapy interventions to help students achieve their mobility and developmental goals
- Document progress and contribute to IEP reviews and interdisciplinary discussions
- Provide feedback and resources to caregivers and educators to support students’ ongoing development both in and out of the classroom
- Adapt strategies and supports for non-verbal students, ensuring accessibility and engagement
