Job Title: Assistant Machine Operator

Classification: Hourly

Shift: 1st Shift 

Reports To: Production Supervisor  

Department: Production     

 

Summary of Job

The assistant operator is responsible for ensuring safe, timely and accurate end of line production SAP transactions, quality checks, and coordination support to the Operator I and Operator II, as well as related tasks in accordance with Pregis best practices

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Adheres to all Pregis Safety rules and Operational Excellence
  • Assures all teammates adhere to all Pregis safety policies and procedures.
  • Assure completeness and accuracy of all production reporting
  • Ensure quality products are being produced
  • Inspect and perform measurements as defined by the SOP on all extruded items and products being produced Provide support and assistance as needed to the Operator I and Operator II during start up, changeover, and shut down
  • Assist in moving and grinding all start up and scrap materials generated during the extrusion process
  • Housekeeping throughout assigned shift to ensure an orderly and safe environment.
  • Neatly palletizes skids with finished product.
  • Separates scrap into appropriate film-type gaylord.
  • Assist on or operate other converting or manufacturing equipment and perform preventative maintenance within the plant as assigned
  • Acquires knowledge/ skills of Set-up Technicians to better assist and troubleshoot when needed.
  • Support, demonstrate and promote Pregis’ core values: integrity, collaboration, customer focus and innovation. Adheres to the highest standards of company safety programs, guidelines, rules, and regulations including all personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements
  • Attends meetings and completes safety trainings as required.

  • Prior SAP or similar ERP system knowledge.
  • Read a tape measure to 1/32”
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Shows competency to multi-task while completing tasks in a timely basis
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, follow standardized work instructions and adhere to safe work practices in a continuous improvement culture.

Physical Characteristics

  • Repetitive use of wrist, hands, and fingers.
  • Frequent standing, stooping, squatting, up to 75%.
  • Frequent bending and some kneeling.
  • Frequent use of shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, and ankles.
  • Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling (up to 30-50 lbs.).
  • Occasional bending and twisting.
  • Occasional reaching.
  • Occasional typing/keyboarding/preparing documents, voice- assisted as needed.

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 0–1-year manufacturing preferred

 

Compensation

  • The pay range for this position is $18/hr. to $19.50/hr. The Company offers paid vacation time, paid sick leave, medical, dental and vision plans as well as a 401 (k) with employer match.
