SALARY INFORMATION:
Equipment Operator Journey 1: $29.73 / hourly
Equipment Operator Journey 2: $31.55 / hourly
Equipment Operator Lead/Journey 3: $33.64 / hourly
What you will be doing: 
Equipment Operator Journey 1
Performs airport and highway maintenance at a State maintenance station that includes a rural Part 139 certificated airport. Responsible for maintaining State highways, airports, seaplane floats, bridges, and docks in a safe and fully operable condition for use by the traveling public. Complies with all applicable Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and State of Alaska rules and regulations concerning maintenance and operation of Highways and airports.

This position will utilize various types of light duty equipment to perform maintenance activities in support of State of Alaska mission and maintenance of infrastructure. Use of heavy equipment will be in a training capacity.

Equipment Operator Journey 2 
Performs airport and highway maintenance at the State maintenance station that includes a rural Part 139 certificated airport. Responsible for maintaining State highways, airports, seaplane floats, bridges, and docks in a safe and fully operable condition for use by the traveling public. Complies with all applicable Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and State of Alaska rules and regulations concerning maintenance and operation of highways and airports.

Equipment Operator Journey 3
Performs airport and highway maintenance at a State maintenance station that includes a rural Part 139 certificated airport. Responsible for maintaining State highways, airports, seaplane floats, bridges, and docks in a safe and fully operable condition for use by the traveling public. Complies with all applicable FHWA, FAA, TSA, and State rules and regulations concerning maintenance and operation of highways and airports.

The Yakutat Maintenance Station is made up of 5 staff who work cooperatively to operate and maintain regulatory certification and compliance of a rural Part 139 certificated airport, State highways, and roads.

Our crews operate and maintain these airports and roadways in all conditions, year around. Whether plowing snow in near “white-out” conditions to prepare the Airport for normal aircraft operations; maintaining roadways for the traveling public; repairing asphalt on paved surfaces; conducting security inspections on at the airport; maintaining airport lighting systems; clearing right-of-ways and airport safety areas of vegetation overgrowth; or training for any emergency that may occur. This position with the Yakutat Maintenance Station crew is located in Yakutat, Alaska. The crew operates and maintains our roadways in all conditions, year around. May require travel to other stations, possibly for extended periods, during the summer months to complete projects.

Special Note:
Equipment Operator Journey 1:
As a condition of employment, the incumbent shall obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) (in accordance with) within six (6) months of hire and shall comply with all provisions set forth in the most recent Equipment Operator Flex Letter of Agreement (LOA). Failure to obtain the required licensure within the specified timeframe shall result in termination of employment.

The incumbent must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements applicable to CDL and safety-sensitive positions. Drug screening is required prior to operating any equipment requiring a CDL. Upon licensure, the incumbent shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with established policy.

Where applicable, the incumbent shall obtain and maintain firearms qualification.

Equipment Operator Journey 2:
Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in accordance with 49 CFR Part 383.23, as well as compliance with the most recent Equipment Operator Flex Letter of Agreement (LOA), is required.

A valid Tanker (N) endorsement is required at the time of appointment or must be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire under a conditional memorandum. Management may also require the incumbent to obtain a Hazardous Materials (HazMat) endorsement; however, this is not required at the time of appointment.

The incumbent must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements applicable to CDL and safety-sensitive positions, including a background check and pre-employment drug testing. Upon appointment, the incumbent shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with policy.

Where applicable, the incumbent shall obtain and maintain firearms qualification.

Equipment Operator Journey 3:

The incumbent must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements applicable to CDL and safety-sensitive positions, including a background check and pre-employment drug testing. Upon appointment, the incumbent shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with policy.

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION & PUBLIC FACILITIES DRUG AND ALCOHOL POLICY

Selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and procedures and CANNOT start work in a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) position until Management Services or designee has received confirmation of the proposed appointee passing the required Pre-Employment drug test. According to federal regulations, all violations and refusals will be maintained with the Federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse database.

COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIRED

This position requires the incumbent to possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) per federal regulations (49 CFR 383), to register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safety-sensitive duties, and to provide consent to the Employer to review driver information in accordance with 49 CFR 382.

  • Equipment Operatory Journey 1
    Hire approval is conditional in that the proposed appointee successfully obtains a Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of hire, and signs an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.


  • Equipment Operator Journey 2
    A Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required at time of hire. A conditional hire approval can only be given for endorsements. This means that the proposed appointee must successfully obtain an N-Tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.


  • Equipment Operator Journey 3
    A Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required at time of hire. A conditional hire approval can only be given for endorsements
