Position Overview: The CWI will be responsible for inspecting welded assemblies, verifying compliance with applicable codes and customer specifications, and supporting continuous improvement of welding quality and processes. This role works closely with production, quality, and engineering teams to ensure safe, compliant, and high-quality products.

Job Description                                      

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform visual inspection of welds in accordance with ASME 31.1, 31.3, or other applicable codes and customer specifications
  • Verify weld joint preparation, fit-up, welding parameters, and final weld quality
  • Review and interpret WPS, PQRs, and welder qualifications
  • Document inspection results, nonconformances, and corrective actions
  • Support internal and external audits, customer inspections, and third-party inspections
  • Collaborate with production teams to resolve quality issues
  • Assist with welder qualification testing and requalification
  • Verify compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain inspection records and quality documentation
  • Provide guidance and training to welding personnel as needed

Qualifications

  • AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) – current and in good standing
  • Minimum 3–5 years of welding inspection experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
  • Strong knowledge of structural and/or pressure welding codes
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and engineering drawings
  • Experience inspecting MIG and TIG processes
  • Proficiency with inspection tools (fillet gauges, micrometers, weld gauges, etc.)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable working on the shop floor in an industrial environment
  • Experience in structural steel, heavy fabrication, or industrial manufacturing
  • Familiarity with robotic welding systems
  • NDT experience or certifications (VT Level II, MT, PT, UT)
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 or similar quality systems
