About this job
On a substitute basis, provide services to intensive needs students based on the need of the student’s Individualized Educational Plan (IEP).
Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma or GED required.
2. Bilingual in Yup’ik and English preferred.
3. Demonstrated successful experience working with young people with special needs in a school setting preferred.
4. Ability to carry out instructional activities with a minimum of direct supervision.
5. Willingness to participate in future training programs as required.
6. Ability to communicate effectively with teachers, students, and parents.
7. Current first aide/CPR certificate preferred.
8. Ability to live and work in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment.
9. Ability to successfully carry out the duties described below. Duties: 1. Works with a specific students to present and reinforce lessons planned by the teacher.
2. Sets up and operates equipment required by specific students.
3. Assists the students with non-instructional classroom duties such as: snack, restroom, and clothing routines.
4. Assists with the supervision of students during lunch periods, assemblies, play periods, and on field trips.
5. Alerts the teacher of any problem or special information about the students.
6. Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and fellow employees as is expected of teachers.
7. Maintains a sense of responsibility and positive attitude toward students and fellow employees.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
