Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent. 

Position Duties:

  • Transfers incoming calls and places outgoing calls through a computerized telephone system at the Glen Hazel Regional Center or through a non-computerized telephone system at the other three centers, to the appropriate person or unit.
  • Assists in locating residents or employees by use of a central switchboard computer.
  • Announces scheduled religious services and recreational and social activities over the regional center public address system. 
  • Pages employees and visitors as required.
  • Contacts supervisors and managers via digital pagers when the overhead paging system is restricted.
  • Implements the center’s emergency plans relating to fire alarms, disaster drills, bomb threats, utility disruptions, and power line failures, and conducts weekly or monthly fire alarm tests and drills.
  • Maintains resident and employee directories on the computerized console.
  • Greets and assists visitors to the center and provides general information and directions.
  • Sorts incoming and in-house mail to the appropriate resident, department, or employee; bundles and sorts outgoing mail and packages; delivers mail to departments and nursing units.
  • Assists residents and staff with questions or problems concerning delivery or distribution of mail.
  • Performs other related duties as required or requested.

Knowledge of:

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • General office practices and procedures
Ability to:
  • Learn the computerized console at the Glen Hazel Regional Center
  • Understand and carry out written and oral instructions
  • Communicate effectively with employees, residents, supervisors, and the general public
  • Push a mail cart through the specified regional center
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents, co-workers, and supervisors, and other related employees

Hiring Requirements:

Background, Real Estate Tax, Drug and Medical:

Allegheny County employment policy requires that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, along with a drug test and medical examination/s as required for the position. In cases a pre-employment drug/medical screening is required, testing must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance pf the conditional offer of employment.

Residency:

New hires are required to reside in Allegheny County within one (1) year of appointment.

Veteran's Preference:

Will be awarded to eligible candidates where applicable.
