Bus Drivers

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK

Under the direction and supervision of the Director I - Transportation Services and the Assistant Director of Transportation Services, the School Bus Driver performs intermediate semi-skilled support work in the transportation of pupils to and from school and special events; does related work as required. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Operates a school bus on an assigned route and schedule
• Picks up and transports children to school daily
• Transports individuals or groups for recreational and social activities
• Checks equipment and reports defects
• Washes buses
• Sweeps out interior of buses and cleans windows
• Reports accidents
• May operate special vehicles for transportation of special students

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• General knowledge of the issues involved in operating a school bus
• General knowledge of the geography of the City and the location of streets
• Skill in the safe operation of a school bus
• Ability to detect malfunctioning equipment
• Ability to assist children using patience and understanding
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, public, associates and students

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED required.
