Job Summary


The registered professional nurse coordinates, plans, directs and implements the nursing process in the delivery of patient care



Essential Functions
  • Provides patient care by reviewing physician prescriptions; coordinating with other healthcare providers; providing physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and friends; conferring with physicians; preventing and managing complications
  • Teaches healthcare requirements by establishing patient care goals; instructing patient, family, and friends to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills; answering questions; providing information and resources
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy patient care environment by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations; adhering to organization standards and policies, and to legal regulations; alerting others regarding potential concerns
  • Assures quality of care by adhering to professional standards, healthcare organization policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and Joint Commission standards; maintaining cooperative relationships among healthcare team members
  • Follows patient care equipment operating instructions and established procedures; troubleshoot breakdowns; maintain supplies; perform preventive maintenance; call for repairs
  • Educate patients about their conditions and how to maintain hygiene of their infusion area
  • Manages patient charts to ensure clinical information is completed and filed appropriately by charting in patient and department computer system records
  • Administer patient medication, fluids or nutrition as directed by provider
  • Protects healthcare organization value by keeping information confidential
  • Collects patient history and provides feedback to the physicians as to any concerns or issues arising between infusions
  • Monitor patients as they receive treatment to ensure that vitals are stable and document in medical chart
  • Review charts for potential drug interactions or other health concerns
  • Provide weekend staffing for outpatient Infusion Services patients as outlined in Weekend Outpatient Infusion Process
  • Participates in community and professional organizations related to areas of expertise
  • Perform duties as outlined in unit specific competencies
  • Any other duties as needed to drive to the Vision, fulfill the Mission, and abide by the Values of the organization


Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree In Nursing required
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure And/Or Compact State Licensure In the State of Missouri Upon Hire required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire required
  • OCN - Oncology Nurse Certification Upon Hire preferred
  • Must successfully complete the ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate Course through ONS within 18 months of hire/transfer into this role and must maintain active certification (www.ons.org/courses/onsoncc-chemotherapy-immunotherapycertificate-course) within 1-1/2 Years required
