Job Summary


Delivers Nursing Care by developing a nursing diagnosis; establishing nursing care objectives; defining nursing interventions; providing physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families/support person to understand patient conditions, medications, and self-care skills; noting changing conditions and needs; re-evaluating care objectives. The RN on the Obstetric Unit will be trained in postpartum care and at the request of the OB nurse manager may be requested to cross-train to the following: L&D, Well Baby, Float, NICU, IBCLC, CLC, and/or Maternal Fetal Medicine



Essential Functions
  • Assures quality care by adhering to professional standards, healthcare organization policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission standards
  • Maintains cooperative relationships among healthcare team members
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy patient care environment by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations; adhering to organization standards and policies, and to legal regulations; alerting others regarding potential concerns
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records
  • Protects healthcare organization value by keeping information confidential; cautioning others regarding potential breaches
  • Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions to appropriate healthcare team member
  • Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans
  • Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions
  • Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity
  • Instruct individuals, families, or other groups on topics such as health education, disease prevention and management
  • Provides patient care by reviewing providers orders; communicating the nursing care plan and all pertinent information to other members of the health care team; coordinating with other healthcare providers; providing physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families/support person; conferring with providers
  • Resolves patient issues by conferring with parties involved
  • Maintaining standards of professional nursing care
  • Promotes a culture of safety by maintaining awareness of patient’s safety needs at all times; acts as a patient advocate by voicing concerns, using chain of command as necessary; adheres to safety practices i.e. safety huddles, bedside shift report
  • Develops nursing care plans by obtaining medical histories; examining patients; documenting patient physical condition, psychological status, and influencing social factors; conferring with family/support person; developing a nursing diagnosis; establishing nursing care objectives; defining nursing interventions, schedules, and timetables
  • Administer medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions and monitor patients for reactions or side effects
  • Preparing patient for and assisting with exams as needed. Explaining procedures/treatment/discharge to patient and family members to alleviate apprehension and to verify understanding of procedure/discharge
  • IV therapy competency including care for central lines
  • Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations
  • Appropriate supervision and delegation of duties to Unlicensed Assistive Personnel and other ancillary staff
  • Assures compliance with Joint Commission standards regarding National Patient Safety Goals and other areas of accreditation.
  • Other specified duties as assigned for patient care and unit specific competencies
  • Any other duties as needed to drive to the Vision, fulfill the Mission, and abide by the Values of the organization


Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree Nursing required
  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing preferred
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure And/Or Compact State Licensure State of MO Upon Hire required
  • BLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire required
