About this job

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) explores and preserves the history, environment, and culture of the entire Chesapeake Bay region, and makes this resource accessible to all. As a vital community partner and industry leader, CBMM will create engaging, immersive, and transformative experiences that educate and inspire individuals throughout the Chesapeake Bay region and beyond.

SCOPE:

CBMM’s Boat Donation Program (BDP) is an important source of revenue. This role supports the program by evaluating potential boat donations, coordinating retrieval and delivery of accepted vessels, and helping prepare vessels for sale.

This is a tremendous opportunity for a boating enthusiast who enjoys hands-on work, meeting new people, and using technology to stay organized. You’ll help guide donated boats from first contact through pickup, staging, and sale, playing an integral role in generating revenue that supports CBMM’s mission.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Respond to and track inquiries from donors and buyers, and schedule appointments for vessel walkthroughs/showings as needed.
  • Evaluate vessels against BDP acceptance criteria and recommend acceptance/decline, escalating questions to the BDP Manager as needed.
  • Coordinate and assist with retrieval and delivery of accepted vessels (driving/launching as needed) or coordinate third-party transportation.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and well-organized documentation for each accepted or sold vessel, including donation intake records, title/transfer paperwork, sales documentation and photo files.
  • Create and organize high-quality photos/video, draft clear descriptions and support online listings and marketing to help expedite boat sales.
  • Follow established processes for receiving donated boats/equipment, including Maryland DNR title transfer and internal recordkeeping.
  • Clean, stage, and perform light maintenance on vessels to support timely sales.
  • Maintain vessels and equipment across CBMM storage locations (St. Michaels, Easton, and the on-campus marina) to maximize efficiency.
  • Present vessels to prospective buyers and support showings as requested by the BDP Manager.

This is a full-time, non-exempt, hourly position with an expected minimum work schedule of 40 hours per week. All staff are expected to be available to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

The Boat Donation Program Logistics Coordinator is expected to be present for all special events/festivals unless otherwise arranged with the COO or President and may be assigned to work in a capacity alternate to that defined.
