Job Description

55% -  Impact Services 

  • Assist in the Campus Cupboard, this includes welcoming students, staff, and faculty to the space; restocking items; and checking guests in and out of the cupboard. 
  • Assisting with the Clothing Closet, this includes restocking items and providing guidance to guests who are interested in donating to the closet. 
  • Assist in community outreach that can help support the Campus Cupboard shelves with dietary needs. 

 25% -  Student Outreach & Engagement 

  • Serve as ambassador for the Student Engagement Center during summer orientation and involvement fairs by providing an overview of the office’s programs and services to students, staff and faculty.
  • Provide tours of the Student Engagement Center to perspective students and their families. 
  • Manage and track attendance at summer orientation.

 15% - Administration

  • Completing administrative duties includes, but is not limited to; overseeing the front desk, answering routine questions, maintaining the building space, and completing tasks requested by the SEC staff. 
  • Assisting in the creation of marketing materials including brochures and flyers regarding the office’s programs and services. 

5% -  Other Duties as Assigned

Required Qualifications

  1. Must have weekday availability - Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 - 4pm. 
  2. Prior experience in office and/or customer service settings. 
  3. Strong written and verbal communication skills as evidenced by application materials and interview process. 

Advertised Salary Range

$12.00 per hour

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Have a valid driver’s license. 
  2. Prior experience using Microsoft Office Suite and Canva as shown in application materials. 
  3. Prior experience using social media for professional settings as shown in application materials. 

Position Overview

The Student Engagement Center at the University of Kansas serves as a hub for student involvement, leadership development, impact programs and resources, and community programs. Through the Student Engagement Center, KU students deepen their connection to each other and KU by exploring communities and opportunities to thrive during their Jayhawk experience. Students will engage through registered student organizations, leadership experiences, and professional development workshops. The Center will impact students by providing for direct needs in the Campus Cupboard, Pregnant and Parenting Pantry, clothing closets, and the Emergency Aid Network. Jayhawks will build community as they connect with peers and engage in student support programs. The Student Engagement Center enhances existing programs by providing greater resources and deeper connections across Student Affairs.

Student Ambassadors for the Student Engagement Center are responsible for strengthening the KU student experience through informing incoming Jayhawks of our services at summer orientation and providing assistance with the Campus Cupboard.

Position Requirements

During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions

(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
