Medical Assistant – Cancer Care
Hours – Full time, 36 hours per week
Location: Rockport, Maine
We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our Cancer Care team in Rockport, Maine. In this role, you will support providers and clinical staff in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals undergoing oncology treatment. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working in a collaborative and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Room patients and obtain vital signs, medical histories, and medication reconciliation
- Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during visits
- Coordinate patient flow and ensure timely, efficient care
- Perform clinical tasks such as phlebotomy, injections, and specimen collection (as applicable)
- Manage patient communication, including phone calls, scheduling, and follow-up care instructions
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Support care coordination, including referrals and prior authorizations
- Ensure exam rooms are stocked, clean, and compliant with infection control standards
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Education: High School diploma or GED preferred. Must meet one of the following requirements: Graduated from an accredited vocational institution or community college in Medical Assisting with 160 hours of clinical experience completed; or completion of an Adult Education Medical Assistant program and 6 months of clinical experience in a practice setting; or 1 year of clinical experience in a multi-provider practice setting (equivalent experience will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis).
- License/Certifications: Current AAMA, NHA, AMT, NCCT, or NREMT certification preferred or achieved within one year of eligibility. (Prior to 5/01/25 MA IIs with 10 years MA experience and employed by MaineHealth as a MA in the most recent 5 years are exempt from certification requirement) Current BLS certification required or must obtain within 30 days of start date. Fully remote care team members are exempt from BLS certification requirement. A NH Med Tech License, or NH EMT and National Registry EMT license is required for those positions located in New Hampshire.
- Experience: One year of experience as a Medical Assistant (without certification) or as a MaineHealth Clinical Team Assistant; or 6 months of experience as a certified Medical Assistant.
