Description:

Under general supervision, operates dump trucks, small to medium-size motorized equipment and other various pieces of machinery in a variety of activities including, street repair, construction and maintenance, street sweeping, debris and refuse removal from drainage systems, performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities:

Operates dump truck, loader, snowplow, roller, water truck and other equipment in the construction, maintenance and repair of streets, curbs, bridges and other street structures; works with construction material such as asphalt, gravel, concrete, culverts/pipe, top soil, sand and waste materials; constructs forms for concrete placement; performs assigned work under hazardous conditions, moving traffic, and adverse weather conditions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of the functions, operating methods, and care required for a wide variety of small to medium-size motorized construction, maintenance and automotive equipment.

Knowledge of hazards and applicable safety precautions for equipment operation.

Knowledge of equipment capabilities, limitations and safe operating characteristics.

Knowledge traffic laws, ordinances and regulations relating to the operation of assigned equipment.

Knowledge of street surfacing materials, including asphalt, other petroleum products and aggregates and street paving processes.

Knowledge of OSHA safety standards.

Knowledge of traffic control and work zone standards.

Skill in the efficient and safe operation of assigned equipment.

Skill in performing skilled and semi-skilled construction and maintenance tasks.

Skill in general motorized and non-motorized equipment maintenance.

Skill in reading maps, drawings and construction plans.

Qualifications:

Experience equivalent to one (1) year full-time construction and maintenance work involving the operation of small to medium-size equipment. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Utah Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an endorsement for combination, tanker, and air brakes. Knowledge of the functions, operating methods, and care required for a wide variety of small to medium-size motorized construction, maintenance and automotive equipment. Must be able to operate controls of vehicle, repeatedly using wrists and hands. Ability to work in extreme hot and cold environmental conditions. Must be capable of lifting in excess of 75 pounds without adverse consequences. Must be able to climb in and out of vehicles repeatedly.
