About the Role

FoodStream Learn is seeking a reliable and motivated Educator Assistant to support our hands-on food education programs in NYC schools. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with students, has a passion for food education, and is comfortable assisting in culinary and classroom settings. The Educator Assistant will support lesson facilitation, handle food preparation, manage ingredients and equipment, and help ensure sessions run smoothly from start to finish.

Responsibilities

• Classroom & Program Support: Assist lead educators during hands-on food literacy, nutrition, cooking, and gardening lessons.
• Student Engagement: Help facilitate activities, support students in interactive learning, and encourage participation.
• Material Preparation: Ensure lesson materials, ingredients, and equipment are set up before sessions and properly stored afterward.
• Logistics & Coordination: Support program scheduling, student attendance tracking, and onsite setup.
• Safety & Compliance: Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment, following FoodStream Learn’s guidelines.

Qualifications

• Passion for food education, nutrition, sustainability, or working with youth.
• 1+ year of experience in education, after-school programs, youth work, or related fields.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and classroom environments.
• Comfortable working in hands-on settings, including cooking and gardening activities.
• Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs and be on your feet for extended periods.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.

Hours & Contract Details

• Part-time contract position, with flexible scheduling based on school program needs.
• Hourly compensation of $18 - $22, based on experience and qualifications.
• Onsite role in NYC schools, with occasional offsite events.
• Must have own vehicle.
