Job Description
50% - Program Development and Execution:
- Brainstorm guest topics and speakers, work with the Director and Director of Programs and Student Affairs to approve P&P topics and guests.
- Formally invite P&P guest speakers.
- Under the supervision of the Director of Programs and Student Affairs, execute P&P program logistics; order catering; arrange for transportation of materials and speakers to/from campus with the assistance of staff; assist speakers in preparing materials; host and facilitate programs; prepare speaker gift bags; send thank you notes; and update attendance.
- Assist with general event set-up and tear-down including moving chairs, tables, and other event related furniture.
- The P&P Coordinator will be expected to assist with some evening events throughout the semester by handing out programs, setting up chairs, handling microphones for Q & A, thanking attendees, and/or other duties as assigned by staff.
30% - Outreach:
- Attend 1 SAB recruitment event and 4 SAB meetings each semester as a representative of the P&P series.
- Plan strategic outreach and promotion of P&P programs by posting flyers, wearing the pizza suit, and utilizing social media to promote programs.
- Inform staff of upcoming P&P events, including through weekly memos and blog recaps each semester.
- Attend the weekly student marketing meeting on Friday and weekly meetings with the Director and Director of Programs and Student Affairs.
- Provide administrative support including answering the phone, greeting visitors, and assisting with special projects assigned by staff.

Work Schedule
7-12 hours per week, Monday-Friday, including both daytime office hours, meetings, and evening events. Availability from 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. on Fridays is required.

Required Qualifications
- Served at least one semester and be a member in good standing on the Dole Institute Student Advisory Board as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and Outlook programs as evidenced by application materials.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
Advertised Salary Range
$11.50/hr
Preferred Qualifications
- Past participation in Pizza and Politics programs as evidenced by application materials.
- Past participation in Dole Institute events or programs as evidenced by application materials.
- Minimum of 15 months remaining as a student at KU as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience in event planning as evidenced by application materials.
- Eligible for federal work study.
Position Overview
The Dole Institute of Politics hosts a variety of programs during the academic year, such as political discussions, interview sessions, and roundtable discussions. The Dole Institute of Politics’ Student Advisory Board (SAB) is a way for dedicated students to get involved and volunteer their time and energy. It is a group of students that are interested in politics, public service, and leadership, and take part in volunteer, educational, and social events as well as monthly meetings.
We are currently hiring a Pizza & Politics Student Coordinator.
The Dole Institute hosts Pizza and Politics (P&P) on 4 Fridays each fall and spring semester, usually in the Kansas Memorial Union. Speakers for this program series include local public servants, academics, and journalists who speak to topics relevant to KU students. The coordinator reports to the Director of Programs and Student Affairs and meets regularly with the Dole Institute Director to produce and execute each P&P program.

Position Requirements
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
- It's required to be a current, active SAB member to apply for this position.
Employment Conditions
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
(3) Availability from 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. on Fridays is required and availability some Tuesday-Thursday evenings to work at Dole Institute programs.
