The Property Assessor conducts technical assessor functions in relation to residential, commercial, and agricultural property located throughout Williams County to determine the accurate value of property for real estate tax purposes.

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents in this position. The duties and responsibilities described are not a comprehensive list and may change with or without notice. Incumbents must be able to perform the essential function of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Conducts field inspections to locate, identify, and inventory properties
  • Maintains thorough documentation in records and databases
  • Researches and analyzes property sales and other market data to determine the equitable value of property
  • Liaises with City/County officials, realtors, financial institutions, and surveyors regarding assessment matters
  • Provides customer service to taxpayer inquiries via telephone, email and in-person
  • Performs general administrative duties and provides backup assistance to the Administrative Assistance, as needed
  • Maintains confidentiality of non-public records and makes available all data and information deemed a public record by the North Dakota Century Code.

Typical Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must possess a valid North Dakota Driver’s License, or equivalent
  • Upon hire, must obtain and maintain Class I Property Assessor Certification

Special Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to variable weather conditions and rough terrains
  • Overnight travel required for training
  • Evening work and overtime in April
  • Ability to climb stairs and/or ladders
  • Ability to stand for extended periods



Compensation: Starting salary ranges from $23.56-$25 per hour depending on experience and training.
