Switchboard Operator - Full-time

Summary:

The Switchboard Operator facilitates all telecommunications within the hospital. Receives and directs incoming calls to the appropriate party in a timely manner.

Responsibilities:
1. Routes all incoming calls to specified areas in a professional manner.
2. Provides appropriate information to callers.
3. Performs overhead paging.
4. Provides paging services.
5. Assigns pagers upon request.
6. Initiates the response for all code situations.
7. Monitors and operates multiple alarm systems.
8. Assists with the edits to the on-call physician schedule.
9. Maintains a high degree of confidentiality at all times.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent required, any higher education from an accredited college will supersede this requirement.

Licensure/Certification

None.

Experience

At least one year of experience in a hospital environment preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Clear speaking voice.

• Ability to speak, read, write and communicate effectively in English.

• Proficient with MS Office and able to learn new software rapidly.

Valid NC Driver’s License: No

If driving a Wayne UNC Vehicle, must be 21 years old and MVR must be approved by Risk Management.
