JOB SUMMARY
The Fitness Customer Service Staff duties will include but not limited to: selling Fitness Center Memberships, touring prospects, maintaining and filing member records, working directly with the members and prospective members with assisting on basic exercise equipment instruction, supervision of floor operations, minor equipment and facility maintenance (cleanliness), member check-in, appointment transactions, product inventory and laundry processes. Other duties will include proper phone etiquette (answering, transferring calls, and message taking). This position is the first impression of our entire operation; the overall purpose is to exceed the expectations of each and every customer (internally and externally).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Maintain communication link between Fitness Center Members and Guests, Fitness Center Management Team, Facility Maintenance, Fitness Center Equipment Maintenance, and Group Exercise Instructors
- Provide a high level of personalized attention to the Fitness Center members while on the floor; answering questions regarding equipment usage, memberships, promotions, Fitness Center amenities including Rejuvenation
- Data entry of new household accounts including processing new and renewal memberships, updating, and maintaining information in a confidential manner
- Knowledge of registration software, point of sale, and scheduling system
- Maintain everyday upkeep of the Fitness Center customer service desk and exercise floor
- Maintain daily desk/floor duties sheet and product inventory
- Ability to handle cash, including close out and cash balancing
- Knowledge of accounting procedures and corrections
- Ability to demonstrate proper technique and usage of all workout equipment
- Properly conduct all initial procedures for Personal Training and Pilates Reformer
- In depth understanding of the Pavilion Fitness programs, promotions, and special events
- Perform membership administrative tasks as assigned
- Performs the job safely and in compliance with district policies, procedures, work and safety rules
- Be familiar with the safe operation of all equipment
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist the Fitness Center Management Team in providing a high level of personalized attention and leadership for the Fitness Center Members
- Assist in tracking positive and negative responses/comments involving all facets of the Fitness Center.
- Assist in conducting member and participant surveys
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required
- Answering questions about Fitness and /or Pavilion
- Adheres to all Fitness Center policies and procedures
- Adheres to all departmental and Park District policies and procedures
- Other jobs as indicated by your supervisor
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
- General work area is indoors, in a smoke-free environment with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting.
- Does well with public interaction
- Subject to modified/flexible work schedule
- Must work closely with co-workers
- Able to work under stressful situations when First Aid or CPR is required, including the ability to respond quickly and accurately to any and all emergencies
- Physical agility to maintain mobility from site to site
- Able to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to properly lift 5lbs – 120lbs weight plates and dumbbells.
- Ability to lift and move over 50lbs with assistance

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Current CPR and AED certification
- Preferred customer service experience
- Basic knowledge with computers
- Able to communicate well via written, verbal, and/or computer
- Basic knowledge of proper training techniques in equipment and exercise instruction and safety standards
- Must be 18 years of age or older
