Substitute Teacher applicants require a Substitute or Missouri Teaching certification. Once the background check has cleared and certification is obtained the applicant will be invited to onboard.
Background check - You must have a current background clearance using the Platte County 4-digit number (see below) and is no older than 365 days. Go to to complete the online piece of your background check (Click here to Register with the Fingerprint Portal > Click here to Register with MACHS > see below for the correct code). Once you have your background confirmation number (TCN) you will enter your zip code to make an appointment to have your picture and fingerprints taken. The fee is $43.50. Email Bobbi Wheeler, HR Specialist () to ask for a no charge code for your background check and let Mrs. Wheeler know the date of your fingerprint appointment.

Substitute Teacher Certification:
If you don't already have a teaching certification please apply for a substitute certificate. If you have a DESE teaching certification you do not need a substitute teacher certification. Click and you will be taken to the DESE (Department of Elementary and Secondary Education). The substitute page will give you the information to apply for a substitute certificate. DESE charges $50.00 for a four-year substitute certificate.
- Substitute Teacher and Paraprofessional Substitute pay is $147.15 a day or $19.62 an hour. A full day for a Substitute Teacher is 7.5 hours a day. If a Substitute Teacher works 6.5 hours a day they are paid the full $147.15. If a Substitute works less than 6.5 hours a day, they are paid hourly.
- Retired Teacher Substitute pay is $211.58 a day or $28.21 an hour. A full day for a Substitute Teacher is 7.5 hours a day. If a Retired Teacher serving as a Substitute Teacher works 6.5 hours a day they are paid the full $211.58. If a Substitute works less than 6.5 hours a day, they are paid hourly. This rate applies to a retired teacher serving as a long-term substitute as well.
Substitutes are paid on the 10th and 25th of each month. If the 10th or the 25th falls on a holiday or weekend, payday is the last business day prior to the 10th or 25th. All substitutes will be paid by direct deposit. Substitutes will clock their time.
--- From PDF Description --- Platte County School District Substitute Teacher Job Description Purpose Statement The job of Substitute Teacher is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group an individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students' parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress. This Job reports to Assigned Supervisor Essential Functions Adapts classroom work, based on the lesson plans, for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans. Assists with a variety of activities (e.g. field trips, transportation, lesson plans, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment, materials and personnel to achieve objectives. Collaborates with building administrators, instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in suppor Counsels students for the purpose of improving performance, health status, problem solving techniques and a variety of personal issues.
