Salary: $28.00 to $33.00
Position Summary
The Finance Officer is responsible for managing the financial health and integrity of the organization. This role supports the mission by ensuring accurate financial reporting, stewardship of funds, and compliance with nonprofit and faith-based financial standards.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Reconcile bank accounts and monitor cash flow
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Budgeting & Reporting
- Assist in developing annual budgets aligned with ministry goals
- Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis
- Prepare financial reports for leadership, board members, and donors
Compliance & Accountability
- Ensure compliance with federal, state (Alaska), and local regulations
- Support annual audits and grant reporting requirements
- Maintain proper internal controls and financial policies
Donor & Grant Management
- Track donations, tithes, and grants accurately
- Provide contribution statements to donors
- Ensure restricted funds are used appropriately
Faith-Based Stewardship
- Uphold and model the organizations mission, values, and ethical standards
- Ensure financial practices reflect integrity, transparency, and accountability
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred)
- 25+ years of nonprofit or governmental financing
- Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles (GAAP)
Skills & Abilities
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Aplos)
- Ability to handle confidential financial information
- Strong communication skills for working with leadership and donors
Faith Alignment
- Agreement with the organizations statement of faith
- Commitment to supporting the mission and ministry
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with grant management or fund accounting
- Familiarity with Alaska nonprofit regulations
Work Environment:
- Office-based position at the Fairbanks Rescue Mission.
- Standard business hours, with occasional flexibility to meet program needs.
- May involve occasional interaction with program participants or visitors.
