Basic Purpose and Scope:

The Truck Shop Mechanic will diagnose, repair, and maintain all trucks, refrigerated trailers, food grade tanker trailers, forklifts

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Perform routine and advanced maintenance on transportation related rolling stock for purpose of safety - 20%
  2. Inspects all braking systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, to ensure proper operating conditions - 10%
  3. Diagnoses malfunctioning equipment for repair recommendations regarding vehicle warranty - 30%
  4. Determines vehicle and equipment condition by conducting inspections, diagnostics checks, identifying worn or damaged parts - 20%
  5. Maintains vehicle repair records in truck shop software program - 10%
  6. Schedules repairs by prioritization includes warranty work scheduling - 10%
  7. Maintains in shop parts supply, creates purchase orders, work orders, as required by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration - Ongoing
  8. Responsibility to adhere to Food Safety policies and report food safety and quality concerns to their supervisor - Ongoing
  9. Other activities and duties as assigned - Ongoing

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  1. None

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED TO PERFORM WORK:

  1. Education: 2-year certificate from college or technical school; 3 to 5 years verifiable related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in equipment repair field
  2. Certifications: CDL, Air Braking Systems, Forklift Repair
  3. Experience in use of hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power and pneumatic tools, welding equipment, jacks, and hoists
  4. Ability to read and interpret safety regulations, repair manuals, instructional text, and procedural manuals
  5. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  6. Ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships with all contacts inside and outside of the company
  7. Must have strong verbal and written communications skills with ability to express ideas effectively and efficiently
  8. Must have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  9. Ability to meet attendance requirements

Travel Requirements:

  1. Travel up to 10% of the time should be expected
  2. Travel may be required with little warning and/or for extended periods of time. Off-site deployment of up to 2 weeks could be expected
