Job Summary
EP Breaux Utility Services is seeking an experienced and safety-driven Utility Substation Foreman to lead crews in the construction, maintenance, and upgrade of high-voltage substation projects. The Foreman will supervise and coordinate field activities, ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, and act as the on-site lead for project execution. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, in-depth knowledge of substation operations, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, schedule, and direct crew members on utility substation construction and maintenance projects
- Read and interpret blueprints, one-line drawings, and technical specifications
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies, OSHA standards, and all local, state, and federal regulations
- Coordinate and communicate with project managers, engineers, inspectors, and utility representatives
- Manage daily project logs, timesheets, and material tracking reports
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and vehicles
- Train and mentor crew members on safe work practices and technical procedures
- Identify and resolve field issues, delays, and unforeseen conditions
- Ensure work is completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards
- Participate in job site safety meetings and audits
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certifications a plus
- At least 5 years of experience running electrical substation projects
- Experience leading both small crews (4–7 people) and large crews (15–20 people) on substation projects
- Strong ability to interpret and understand substation drawing packages
- Experience overseeing substation concrete foundation installation
- Experience with below-grade grounding and conduit installation and required equipment
- Experience with substation steel erection and the equipment required
- Experience with above-grade conduit and grounding installation
- Experience with power and control cable installation and termination
- Experience with material ordering and material management
- Experience assisting with substation testing and commissioning processes
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in an outdoor field environment with exposure to weather, construction equipment, and high-voltage areas
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work at heights
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and open trenches
- Must be able to climb poles, ladders, and work from aerial equipment
- Ability to stand, kneel, and work in physically demanding environments for extended periods
