Manual Machinist

Join a team focused on quality, safety, and continuous improvement. The Manual Machinist is responsible for the setup and operation of manual machine tools to produce high-quality components to specification.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual machines including horizontal/vertical boring mills, surface grinders, and duplex mills.
• Perform drilling and tapping operations with attention to thread quality and alignment.
• Interpret blueprints and layout drawings to plan machining sequence and dimensional requirements.
• Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, and other precision tools to confirm tolerances.
• Adjust settings and change tooling to maintain conformance.
• Deburr, clean, and prepare parts for next process or final approval.
• Select cutting tools and grinding wheels based on material, finish, and process needs.
• Document production activity and issues in the production log.
• Maintain safe housekeeping and follow all safety policies.
• Conduct pre-use inspections of cranes, forklifts, and equipment (as assigned/authorized).
• Report equipment issues, shortages, and safety concerns immediately.
• Support training and mentoring of junior machinists as assigned.
• Communicate with supervisors and other departments on priorities and part status.
• Participate in cross-training and improvement initiatives as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience with manual machining processes or strong mechanical aptitude with willingness to learn.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and manuals.
• Ability to use micrometers/calipers (or willingness to learn).
• Strong attention to detail and quality focus.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Physical stamina for industrial work.
• Machine operation/crane operation/quality control experience is a plus.
