CNC Lathe Machinist for a Job Shop in Tulsa
Temp to Perm
Pay: DOE $25+
Dayshift 6am to 4pm Mon-Fri
Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled CNC Lathe Machinist to set up, operate, and maintain CNC turning centers to produce precision components that meet strict quality and tolerance requirements. This role is responsible for interpreting technical drawings, selecting tooling, performing machine setups, and ensuring efficient production in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of machining principles, and a commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC lathe machines (2-axis, multi-axis, or live tooling) to manufacture precision parts
- Interpret blueprints, GD&T, and work instructions to ensure accurate part production
- Select, install, and adjust tooling, inserts, and fixtures for optimal performance
- Perform first article inspections and in-process quality checks using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, etc.)
- Edit offsets and make minor program adjustments (G-code) to maintain tolerances and improve efficiency
- Monitor machine performance, tool wear, and part quality; troubleshoot issues as needed
- Maintain production documentation, including inspection reports and job travelers
- Perform routine maintenance and ensure machines are clean and in proper working condition
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve issues and improve processes
- Follow all safety policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards (5S)
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical training or machining certification preferred
- 2+ years of CNC lathe machining experience (setup and operation preferred)
- Strong understanding of machining practices, tooling, speeds/feeds, and materials
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T
- Experience with Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, or similar CNC controls preferred
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments
- Basic knowledge of G-code editing and offsets
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a production environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with multi-axis lathes and live tooling
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems for job tracking and documentation
- Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience
- Experience working in aerospace, oil & gas, or high-spec manufacturing environment
