New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (NMSBVI) is currently recruiting Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) to assist blind and visually impaired students achieve their greatest level of independence. Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree or higher, current ACVREP certification, and eligibility for O&M licensure from the New Mexico Public Education Department (PED). This is a full-time, 9-month position working on the Early Childhood Program campus in Albuquerque with students ages 3-6 and a full-time, 9-month position working on a residential campus with students ages 3-21, some of whom have multiple disabilities. Positions available for the 26-27 school year. Applications will be accepted until filled.

Three years later, the school opened its doors in Alamogordo, New Mexico with 21 students, two teachers, and a superintendent. Today, the residential campus is still located on the original site in Alamogordo with a second campus in Albuquerque, New Mexico that houses an Early Childhood Program as well as the school’s statewide services.
