Residential Support Assistant (RSA)

Position Overview

The Residential Support Assistant (RSA) provides direct care and supervision to individuals in a residential setting, supporting their physical, emotional, and social well-being. This role is essential in helping residents maintain independence, dignity, and a high quality of life while ensuring a safe and structured environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
• Support residents with mobility, transfers, and positioning as needed
• Prepare and serve meals in accordance with dietary guidelines and assist with feeding when necessary
• Administer medications in compliance with state regulations and company policies (if certified)
• Observe, document, and report changes in residents’ health, behavior, or condition
• Implement individualized service plans and behavioral support strategies
• Promote social interaction, engagement, and participation in recreational activities
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe living environment
• Assist with transportation to appointments, errands, and community outings (if required)
• Follow all safety protocols, including infection control and emergency procedures
• Maintain accurate documentation and complete required reports in a timely manner

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• At least 6 months of experience in caregiving, healthcare, or human services preferred
• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
• Medication Administration certification preferred (if applicable under Maryland regulations)
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred
• Ability to pass criminal background check and drug screening

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Work is performed in a residential care setting
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs)
• May require assisting residents with mobility and transfers
• Exposure to various health conditions and behaviors
