Job Description

IES seeks a Regional Medical Director to oversee three (3) EDs with OakBend Medical Center's (OakBend) health system located in a desirable suburb, southwest of Houston. This is a role that rarely comes open. The unique aspect of this position is that OakBend is the only independent health system in Texas, enabling direct interaction with hospital C-suite members. The Regional Medical Director is able to affect the practice support which is best suited for the community. The objectives align with that of IES, a Physician-owned and managed ER group, unincumbered by outside investors, making for the ultimate model to achieve excellence in healthcare. 

Regional Medical Director Role:

  • Provide on-site management of the clinical and administrative aspects for the emergency department.
  • Manage the quality improvement plan including attending regular meetings and reviewing medical records
  • Supervise staff, provide feedback, and assure provision of high-quality care
  • Review the provider schedule and ensure adequate staffing
  • Actively participate in the recruitment and retention of qualified physicians
  • Serve as liaison between hospital administration and clinical staff and provide regular feedback to IES leadership

This position features exceptional aspects of collaboration and support, which include working with the Executive VP of IES Houston, who has provided clinical leadership with IES since 2012.  Additional support includes an Associate Medical Director or a clinical administrative fellow, a Practice Administrator, Scheduling, Credentialing, and Recruitment. A monthly stipend and time allotted for administrative work is included.

Qualifications:

  • Experience ED Medical Director experience
  • ABEM with Emergency Medicine residency training
  • Texas medical license (or ability to obtain)
  • DEA, ACLS, ATLS, PALS

  • 10% admission rate; 5% transfers

OBMC -Williams Way Campus

  • 11,300 Patients per year (~1.3 Pts./hour)
  • 8-bed ED
  • 57-Bed Hospital
  • Single physician coverage: 7A -7P; 7P-7A
  • 10% admission rate; 5% transfers

OBMC -Wharton Campus in Wharton, TX

  • 9,500 Patients per year (~1.1 Pts./hour)
  • 24-hour single physician coverage
  • Physician shifts are mostly 24s; 12-hour shifts allowed
  • 6-bed ED
  • 40-Bed Hospital
  • Only MSU admissions (rehab program). Medical admissions go to other campuses
