Job Description

The Physician Resident at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center in Woodbridge, VA participates in a structured graduate medical education program designed to provide comprehensive clinical training and professional development. Under the supervision of attending physicians, the resident delivers high-quality, patient-centered care while progressively assuming greater responsibility for clinical decision-making and patient management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings under the supervision of attending physicians.
  • Perform patient evaluations, including obtaining medical histories, conducting physical examinations, and developing differential diagnoses.
  • Order, interpret, and document diagnostic tests and procedures.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians and interdisciplinary care teams.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough medical documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, rounds, and patient care conferences.
  • Engage in educational activities, including lectures, case presentations, and research opportunities.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, ethical practice, and effective communication with patients, families, and team members.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited medical school (MD or DO).
  • Enrollment in an ACGME-accredited residency program.
  • Eligible for or holding a valid Virginia medical license (training license acceptable).
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications (or ability to obtain upon hire).
