Job Description
The Safety Specialist at our client’s New Martinsville, WV facility plays a crucial role in advancing occupational health and safety initiatives. This position emphasizes sustainable risk reduction, regulatory compliance, and cultivating a proactive safety culture through comprehensive program development, training, auditing, and active employee engagement within a medium-sized safety team.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and site-specific safety policies and procedures.
- Develop and deliver effective safety training and orientation programs for employees and contractors.
- Support site emergency preparedness and participate on the emergency response team.
- Collaborate with industrial hygiene and medical teams to mitigate health-related risks.
- Assist in managing the facility’s security program and act as backup Facility Security Officer.
- Conduct routine safety audits, risk assessments, and recommend corrective actions.
- Investigate incidents and near misses, identify root causes, and support corrective measures.
- Lead employee safety committees and promote safety awareness initiatives.
- Analyze safety data and incident reports to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
- Champion a proactive safety culture throughout the facility.
Required Qualifications
- 2–5 years of experience in industrial safety and health.
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field is required.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and best practices in manufacturing environments.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, plant-based environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in industrial safety and health.
- Advanced knowledge of OSHA regulations and risk management.
- Expertise in safety training, incident investigation, and data analysis.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and multitasking skills.
