Job Description

Overview

Shriners Children’s Northern California is seeking a full-time, non‑operative Sports Medicine Physician to join our expanding pediatric orthopedic and sports medicine program. This is an exceptional outpatient-only opportunity with no inpatient responsibilities, no call, no nights, and no weekends. The schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., with a half‑day of administrative time each week.

The selected physician will join a dynamic, mission-driven team that includes orthopedic surgeons, two dedicated sports APPs (with potential expansion), an athletic trainer, LVN, MA, RN, PTs, ortho techs/cast techs, and POPS support. You will work collaboratively to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care to young athletes while helping shape a rapidly growing program.

This role is ideal for an energetic physician who is excited to take ownership of program growth, build partnerships across the region, and help establish a premier pediatric sports medicine service in collaboration with UC Davis.

Successful candidates will be board certified/eligible pediatricians, PM&R, or family medicine practitioners who have successfully completed a fellowship in sports medicine. The ideal candidate will have significant experience and interest in working with pediatric patients.

Compensation ranges from $243,474 to $343,370, determined by specialty, post-fellowship experience, fair market value, and departmental equity.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and manage pediatric and adolescent patients with sports-related and musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Perform in-office procedures such as ultrasound-guided injections and joint aspirations.
  • Identify patients requiring surgical intervention and coordinate referral to orthopedic surgeons.
  • Participate in the development of outreach and satellite clinics
  • Collaborate with athletic trainers and other team members to enhance access and support partnerships with local schools and youth athletic programs.
  • Contribute to program development initiatives, including helping to establish a pediatric concussion program in collaboration with neuropsychology.

Qualifications

Education and Certification:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school
  • Board certified or board eligible in Pediatrics, Family Medicine, or Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R).
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Sports Medicine required.
  • Current or eligibility for medical licensure in the State of California.
  • Current BLS and PALS certification required
  • Current DEA required
  • Credentialing and privileging by the medical staff in accordance with hospital bylaws

Experience:

  • Prior experience in pediatric or adolescent sports medicine required
  • Experience with basic fracture care and performing ultrasound-guided musculoskeletal procedures is required
  • Interest in concussion management preferred but not required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of pediatric and adolescent sports injuries and rehabilitation
  • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, APPs, and allied health staff
  • Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills
  • Commitment to teaching, mentorship, and program development
  • Demonstrated alignment with Shriners’ mission of compassionate, family-centered care
