Position Overview
A radiation therapist is responsible for operating machines known as linear accelerators. These machines deliver focused radiation therapy to patients with cancer. As a radiation therapist, you play a pivotal role in the oncology department.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Operation: Operate linear accelerators to administer radiation treatment prescribed by the radiation oncologist.
- Patient Preparation: Accurately position patients for treatment sessions and ensure patient comfort during procedures.
- Monitor Patient Reactions: Observe patients for unusual reactions or events during treatment and report any concerns to the attending physician.
- Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate records of patient treatments and radiation doses.
Qualifications
- Certification in Radiation Therapy.
- Proficiency with linear accelerators and other related equipment.
- Strong understanding of oncology terminology and practices.
- Ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with patients.
