Field Safety Officer (Full-Time)
Location: Landmark Excavating Office (American Fork, UT) and field sites across Utah
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday-Friday | Occasional weekends as needed
About the RoleLandmark Excavating is seeking a people-first, experienced Field Safety Officer to join our growing team.
This is not an entry-level safety position. We are looking for someone who understands heavy civil excavation from real-world field experience and can confidently recognize both safe and unsafe operations across a wide range of work activities.
The ideal candidate has worked directly in heavy civil construction as an operator, foreman, superintendent, safety professional, or other field leadership role and understands how excavation work should be planned, executed, and protected in the field.
We are not looking for a safety "cop." We are looking for someone who genuinely cares about people, builds trust with crews, and sees safety as a long-term profession and leadership opportunity.
You must be honest, dependable, willing to speak up when necessary, and capable of earning the respect of the field through knowledge, consistency, and relationships.
What You'll Do- Conduct regular jobsite visits, safety audits, and field coaching
- Lead toolbox talks, CORE morning meetings, and mentoring conversations
- Assist crews and leadership with hazard recognition and problem solving
- Support incident documentation, investigations, and follow-up
- Maintain and restock field safety lockers and PPE supplies
- Help strengthen a proactive, relationship-based safety culture across all projects
- Communicate effectively with both English and Spanish-speaking crews
- Heavy civil excavation construction experience required
- Must have strong working knowledge of excavation operations and field safety practices
- Must understand how major heavy civil operations should be safely performed, including excavation, underground utility work, equipment operations, trucking, work zone safety, and related field activities
- Strong understanding of critical risk areas such as trench protection systems, confined space hazards, equipment interactions, and field operations
- Previous experience as an operator, field leader, superintendent, foreman, or construction safety professional strongly preferred
- OSHA 30 or equivalent safety certifications preferred
- Fluent in Spanish and English required
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Physically able to navigate active construction sites in all weather conditions
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
