American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level I Trauma Emergency Department position requiring a minimum of 2 years of ED experience and at least 6 months of Trauma Level I experience.

- Acute care hospital ED/Trauma unit with 36 acute beds, 54 sub-acute beds, and 6 trauma bays \n
- High-volume department serving approximately 88,000 patients per year (250–300 per day) \n
- Patient population includes trauma, burns, chest pain, spinal cord, and TBI cases; peds and burns are transferred out \n
- Patient ratio of 1:4 \n
- Charting via Cerner EMR \n
- Phillips monitors used for telemetry — must be able to read rhythm strips \n
- Ventilators managed by Respiratory Therapy (RT available 24/7) \n
- Pharmacy on-site 24/7, with a pharmacist in the ED for 10 hours per day \n
- Minimum of 2 MDs (up to 8) plus mid-levels and anesthesia in-house \n
- Two Charge RNs on unit — may have a light patient load or task-based role \n
- 4 PCTs available as sitters \n
- 12-hour night shifts \n
- 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week period, at unit discretion \n
- Holiday coverage based on unit needs \n
- Travelers may be floated between up to 4 facilities: St. Joseph's Main, St. Joseph's Westgate, and two free-standing ERs in Litchfield Park and Glendale (approximately 30 minutes apart); floating can occur mid-shift \n
- Navy scrubs required \n

- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted \n
- Required certifications (active, non-pending): BLS, ACLS, and PALS — ENPC is not accepted as a substitute for PALS \n
- Preferred certifications: TNCC and ATCN \n
- Minimum 2 years of ED/Emergency Room experience required \n
- Minimum 6 months of Trauma Level I experience required \n
- Must be able to read cardiac monitor strips (Phillips monitors) \n
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility — driver's license is used to verify permanent address \n
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire \n
- Driver's license required for consideration \n
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to accepting an offer (2 attempts allowed; failure results in a 6-month DNU status for CommonSpirit AZ facilities) \n
- Personal vehicle required — travel between float facilities is the traveler's responsibility \n
- Natural hair color required; facial piercings not permitted \n
- Men must be clean-shaven (required for fit testing) \n

- Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered \n
- Orientation consists of approximately 2–3 shifts on the floor \n
- A pass/fail exam is administered on Day 1 of orientation — a study guide is provided in advance \n
- SIMs Lab is required for ED travelers and includes Foley catheter insertion and port-a-cath access (instead of central line dressing changes); SIMs Lab is pass/fail and maintaining sterile field is critical — nurses have been dismissed for breaking sterile field \n
- Additional orientation topics include lifts, restraints, and wound care (educational only, as policies and equipment vary by facility) \n
- The ED also sees approximately 30–40 psychiatric holds \n
- Travelers housing should account for float zone coverage across up to 4 facilities roughly 30 minutes apart \n
