Job Description
An Environmental Specialist for the Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM) program at Camp Blanding (Florida Army National Guard) manages natural resources and land sustainability to support military training requirements. They conduct field assessments, manage GIS data, and implement Land Rehabilitation and Maintenance (LRAM) to ensure training land viability.

SALARY: $23 per hour, full time *

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Land Management: Perform Range Training Land Assessments (RTLA) to evaluate environmental impacts of training activities.
  • Rehabilitation: Implement Land Rehabilitation and Maintenance (LRAM) projects to repair damaged training areas.
  • GIS and Mapping: Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for spatial analysis and map creation to support land planning and monitoring.
  • Environmental Compliance: Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including managing natural resources (flora/fauna) and erosion control, often coordinating with the Dept. of Public Works.
  • Training Coordination: Align training land requirements with sustainability goals, reducing long-term environmental degradation.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, forestry, or related field.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in GIS software (ESRI) and GPS data collection.
  • Field Experience: Ability to work outdoors, conduct surveys, and navigate rough, uneven terrain in varied weather conditions.
  • Communication: Ability to prepare technical reports and coordinate with military range control.
