Farmer's Market Assistant

JOB OVERVIEW

- The Farmers Market Assistant supports the daily operations of the West Monroe Farmers Market. This is a hands-on, community-focused position assisting with vendor coordination, customer service, and market activities including pea shelling and pecan cracking/ shelling.

- This position works under the direction of the Farmers Market Manager and Director of Community Services to help maintain a safe, welcoming, and efficient market environment.

SPECIFIC TASKS, DUTIES, & RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with Daily setup, operation, and breakdown of the market.

Maintain cleanliness and organization of market grounds.

Support seasonal setup and annual cleanup activities.

Provide friendly and professional customer service.

Assist vendors as needed during market hours.

Help monitor compliance with market rules and guidelines.

Assist with collection of vendor fees and service payments.

Operate pea shelling and pecan cracking / shelling equipment.

Weigh, track, and record customer orders accurately.

Maintain cleanliness and safety of equipment.

Assist customers efficiently and courteously.

Maintain basic records of services provided and fees collected.

Assist with market events, promotions, and special activities.

WORKER REQUIREMENTS (education, certifications, experience, etc.)

High school diploma or GED (General Education Degree)

Strong communication and customer service skills

Ability to work well with the public

Dependable, self-motivated, and team-oriented

Ability to follow directions and adapt to a fast-paced environment

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and left for extended periods

Ability to lift 40-50 lbs as needed

Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions

Ability to safely operate or learn basic machinery (pea shellers, pecan equipment)

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with farmers markets, agriculture and customer service.

Basic knowledge of food safety practices.

Familiarity with social media platforms.
