Position Summary
RJY Group, LLC is seeking a Supervisory Engineer to lead central plant operations at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Medical Center. This role provides technical authority and supervisory oversight, including management of boiler safety programs and testing procedures to ensure compliance and uninterrupted healthcare operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Supervise and direct Stationary Engineers and plant operations
Ensure continuous operation of mission-critical utility systems
Develop and enforce boiler safety programs and testing schedules
Oversee execution and documentation of:
Safety valve certifications
Low-water cutoff tests
Burner safety and flame safeguard testing
Pressure control and limit verification
Review logs, inspection reports, and compliance documentation
Serve as technical authority for troubleshooting and system performance
Coordinate maintenance, outages, and repairs
Ensure compliance with regulatory, VA, and safety standards
Support QA/QC and inspection programs consistent with contract requirements
Interface with COR, facility engineering, and inspectors
Train and mentor plant personnel on safe operating practices and testing procedures
Lead response during emergency and contingency operations
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required (Bachelor's preferred)
Valid Senior/Chief Stationary Engineer License preferred
Minimum 7+ years of central plant experience
Minimum 3+ years supervisory experience
Demonstrated hands-on experience with:
High-pressure steam boilers and associated auxiliaries
Chilled water systems and cooling towers
Building Automation Systems (BAS)
Required experience performing or supporting boiler safety device testing, including:
Safety valve testing/verification
Low-water cutoff testing
Flame safeguard and burner management system checks
Pressure control and limit device testing
Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills
Advanced technical knowledge of boiler safety systems
Effective documentation and communication
Strong leadership and workforce management
Deep understanding of compliance and inspection readiness
Ability to enforce procedures and maintain accountability
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, and climb ladders/stairs for extended periods
Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds
Ability to work in confined spaces, mechanical rooms, and elevated platforms
Ability to tolerate high heat environments, noise, and vibration typical of boiler/chiller plants
Ability to distinguish colors for wiring, gauges, and control panels
Must be capable of wearing required PPE, including respirators (if required)
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of supervisory experience
Experience in VA, healthcare, or large institutional facilities strongly preferred
Experience complying with VHA or Joint Commission standards.
