Position Summary
RJY Group, LLC is seeking qualified Stationary Engineers to support central plant operations at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Medical Center (Hines, IL). This role is responsible for operating and maintaining high-pressure boilers, chillers, and auxiliary systems in a mission-critical healthcare environment, including execution of required boiler safety device testing procedures.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Operate and monitor central utility plant equipment, including boilers, chillers, pumps, and compressors
Perform routine inspections, log readings, and system adjustments
Execute and assist with boiler safety device testing procedures in accordance with:
Manufacturer recommendations
VA and regulatory requirements
Facility SOPs
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance
Identify and troubleshoot system deficiencies and abnormal conditions
Maintain accurate operational logs, testing documentation, and maintenance records
Respond to alarms and emergency conditions
Support 24/7 plant operations, including rotating shifts
Follow all safety protocols, including LOTO, confined space, and PPE requirements
Coordinate with supervisors and Government personnel
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required
Valid Stationary Engineer License (Hines, IL)
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in central plant operations
Demonstrated hands-on experience with:
High-pressure steam boilers and associated auxiliaries
Chilled water systems and cooling towers
Building Automation Systems (BAS)
Required experience performing or supporting boiler safety device testing, including:
Safety valve testing/verification
Low-water cutoff testing
Flame safeguard and burner management system checks
Pressure control and limit device testing
Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills
Knowledge of boiler operations and safety systems
Familiarity with regulatory and inspection requirements
Effective documentation and communication
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, and climb ladders/stairs for extended periods
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Ability to work in confined spaces, mechanical rooms, and elevated platforms
Ability to tolerate high heat environments, noise, and vibration typical of boiler/chiller plants
Ability to distinguish colors for wiring, gauges, and control panels
Must be capable of wearing required PPE, including respirators (if required)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in VA, healthcare, or large institutional facilities strongly preferred
Experience complying with VHA or Joint Commission standards.
