Job Opportunity: Pipefitter
LEAD Staffing | Hampton Roads, VA
Location: Norfolk
Schedule: Full-Time | Contract | 40 hours per week (Overtime as required)
About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Pipefitter to support shipyard operations in VA. This role involves fabricating, installing, and repairing piping systems aboard naval and commercial vessels in accordance with shipyard specifications and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities- Lay out, cut, fit, and install piping systems including high-pressure, low-pressure, and hydraulic lines.
- Fabricate pipe spools and supports per blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Install valves, fittings, flanges, and related piping components.
- Perform hydrostatic and leak testing on completed systems.
- Read and interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications.
- Coordinate work with other trades to ensure proper sequencing and installation.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed and materials used.
- Follow all shipyard safety procedures and quality standards.
- Minimum of 3 years of pipefitting experience; marine or shipyard experience preferred.
- Proficiency with pipe cutting, threading, and fitting tools.
- Strong blueprint and isometric drawing reading skills.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must be willing to undergo background check and drug screening.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and extended schedules as required.
- Clean driving record required.
- Shipyard and industrial settings
- Exposure to noise, heat, cold, confined spaces, and marine/industrial hazards
- PPE required at all times
- Describe your experience as a pipefitter in a shipyard or marine environment.
- What types of piping systems have you installed or repaired (hydraulic, steam, water, fuel)?
- How do you ensure pipe alignment and fit-up accuracy prior to welding or connection?
- What tools and equipment are you most experienced with?
- How do you conduct or assist with hydrostatic or pneumatic testing?
- Describe a challenging pipe installation you completed and how you resolved issues.
- How do you verify your work meets specifications before final sign-off?
- What safety precautions are most important in confined shipboard spaces?
- How do you manage your workload when multiple systems are being installed simultaneously?
- How do you communicate conflicts or design issues to supervisors or engineers?
