Benchmark Ecological Services, Inc. (Benchmark) is excited to further develop our hydrographic survey services and hire an experienced aquatic surveyor. Benchmark has over 30 years of experience conducting environmental sampling events in bays and rivers along the Gulf Coast. Benchmark routinely conduct sampling events to support permit applications associated with dredging, industrial and navigation improvement projects. Benchmark scientists and surveyors routinely conduct benthic surveys to map and delineate sensitive benthic habitats. Benchmark is looking to hire a surveyor to manage survey boats, survey equipment, clients, and Benchmark field personnel.
Essential Responsibilities
· Ensure that all members of the survey crew conduct themselves in a professional manner and present a responsible, positive attitude to clients and the general public.
· Interact with internal and external client representatives in a professional manner.
· Coordinate with project manager, clients and project personnel for daily crew assignment and schedule to meet project needs.
· Ensure, conduct, and oversee daily inspections to confirm the survey vehicles are in safe working order and confirm equipment is present and set up correctly.
· Supervise, manage, and mentor subordinate field survey personnel in the performance of their assignments.
· Record and document clear, concise, and precise field notes to record the survey work performed.
Job Requirements
· 3+ years' project experience required in the field of surveying.
· A thorough understanding of all surveying and best practices.
· Must have a safe driving record.
· A thorough understanding of safety precautions and the ability to follow and enforce HASP related to the project.
· Excellent communication and leadership skills.
· Ability to make good decisions quickly and provide alternate solutions.
· Ability to maintain regular attendance as per work schedule agreed with manager (may require working an adjusted work schedule based on project assigned and work overtime if warranted).
· Physically work in the field long hours under adverse environmental conditions
· Spend approximately 60% of time in a field environment and 40% of the time working on the computer to develop maps and figures.
· Occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds.
· Operate small watercraft, set up and maintain survey equipment, and manage field data.
· Develop hydrographic services to support current and new clients.
Experience conducting surveys using a side scan sonar, single/double beam and sub-bottom sonar
