Description:
- The Patient Access Scheduler is responsible for performing clerical and reception duties related to patient scheduling and registration.
- This role serves as the first point of contact for patients and requires the ability to manage a high volume of calls while navigating multiple systems in a fast paced healthcare environment.
- The ideal candidate is highly organized, customer focused, and an effective communicator.
- Serve as the first point of contact for patients via phone or in person.
- Handle a high volume of incoming calls while providing exceptional customer service.
- Schedule patient visits and procedures for multiple hospitals and outpatient centers, coordinating with various departments and adhering to clinical protocols.
- Respond to patient questions and concerns and direct them to the appropriate department or location.
- Maintain ongoing communication with clinical staff regarding real time patient status.
- Collaborate with physicians, medical staff, and associates to optimize scheduling efficiency and effectiveness.
- Multitask across multiple technology systems to complete scheduling and registration functions.
- Collect and accurately enter patient demographic, clinical, billing, and insurance information.
- Provide patient education by explaining preparation instructions and procedural guidelines according to scheduling protocols.
- Inform patients of potential co pays and deductibles due at the time of service.
- Review and analyze financial information in the registration system and communicate details to patients and the business office.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, physician offices, ancillary departments, nursing units, and patients.

- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of one year of call center experience
- Strong attention to detail
- Proven customer service experience
- Ability to multitask and navigate multiple computer systems simultaneously
- Ability to manage a high volume of incoming calls
- Experience working in a hospital or medical environment
- Working knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to see, read, and operate computers, telephones, office equipment, documents, and labels, including frequent use of hands and fingers.
- Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods while performing work-related tasks.
- Frequent verbal communication with patients, providers, associates, and visitors, including the ability to hear and understand spoken information quickly and accurately.
- Manual dexterity to manipulate equipment with precision, including frequent keyboarding and computer use.
- Ability to walk and assist with transporting or ambulating patients and distributing supplies and equipment, including pushing or pulling gurneys and portable equipment weighing over 5 lbs.
