We are looking for an experienced Tax Manager to lead a broad range of tax engagements in California. This position is suited for someone who is detail oriented and can balance technical accuracy with practical guidance while supporting clients and internal teams across complex tax matters. The role offers the opportunity to shape tax planning efforts, oversee compliance activities, and contribute to the continued development of the tax practice.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee the preparation and final review of federal, state, and local tax filings to ensure complete, timely, and accurate submission.
• Design and recommend tax strategies that improve overall efficiency and help reduce exposure across a variety of client situations.
• Monitor updates to tax legislation, evaluate how new rules affect client entities, and document findings through clear technical analysis.
• Lead responses to tax examinations and agency inquiries by coordinating information, managing timelines, and working with outside parties as needed.
• Guide and develop entry level tax specialists and operational staff through coaching, workflow support, and ongoing knowledge sharing.
• Maintain organized tax records and produce reporting materials that help leadership track issues, risks, and planning opportunities.
• Manage tax engagements involving individual, corporate, partnership, fiduciary, exempt, and sales tax matters across diverse client needs.• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA or a similar certification is preferred.
• At least 5 years of experience in public accounting or tax management with hands-on exposure to multiple entity types.
• Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local tax rules, including compliance obligations and planning considerations.
• Experience preparing or reviewing individual, corporate, partnership, trust, and sales tax returns.
• Proficiency with Lacerte, QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online, Canopy Tax, Slack, Zoom, Webex, Adobe, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong analytical judgment and problem-solving ability with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and explain technical matters clearly.
