Job Title: Lead Toolmaker
Shift: 1st Shift
Job Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Director of Manufacturing
We are seeking a highly experienced Lead Toolmaker to oversee mold maintenance and repair operations. This is a hands-on leadership ("player-coach") role, responsible for maintaining injection molds, troubleshooting production issues, and mentoring junior team members. The goal is to ensure zero-defect production and maximize tool life.
Key Responsibilities:Technical Leadership & Tool Ownership:
Develop and manage preventive maintenance (PM) schedules based on shot counts and production needs
Diagnose and resolve tool-related issues such as flash, venting problems, and dimensional inconsistencies
Perform complex mold repairs to restore tools to original specifications
Manage spare parts inventory, including pins, bushings, and springs
Team Leadership & Coordination:
Train and mentor junior toolmakers and apprentices
Prioritize and manage daily toolroom workflow in alignment with production schedules
Maintain accurate tool history and repair logs within ERP systems (IQMS preferred)
Continuous Improvement & Safety:
Enforce safety protocols including lockout/tagout and crane safety
Identify improvements in tool performance (cooling, venting, ejection)
Promote a quality-driven and ownership-focused work culture
10+ years of toolmaking experience
Minimum 3 years in a lead or supervisory role
Expertise in maintenance and repair of multi-cavity and hot runner injection molds
Strong manual machining skills (lathe, mill, grinder)
Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and CAD drawings
Experience with ERP systems (IQMS preferred)
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail
Ability to stand, bend, and move frequently
Comfortable operating cranes, forklifts, and toolroom equipment
Manufacturing/toolroom setting with moderate noise levels
Exposure to machinery, high-voltage equipment, and industrial chemicals
Use of PPE including safety glasses, steel-toe boots, and protective gear
Pay: $40.00 - $55.00 per hour
