Join the Department of Agriculture as a Veterinary Medical Field Officer. This position offers a unique chance to work directly with racehorses while supporting safety and integrity at Meadows Racetrack. This position supports horse health, racing integrity, and regulatory compliance by supervising medical procedures, conducting inspections, and maintaining accurate records. The role includes direct work with horses before, during, and after races to ensure fitness, safety, and adherence to racing rules. As a Veterinary Medical Field Officer, you will perform the following duties:
- Race Monitoring: Observe horses throughout race events and determine physical fitness for competition
- Medical Oversight: Supervise blood and urine sample collection, bleeder medication activities, and Lasix program procedures
- Emergency Care: Provide first aid, treat injuries, and support decisions regarding euthanasia when necessary
- Record Keeping: Maintain lists, reports, and documentation for inspections, injuries, and veterinary findings
- Regulatory Actions: Assist with enforcing racing rules, resolving eligibility concerns, and reporting violations
- Inspection Duties: Perform pre-race examinations and evaluate horses for signs of illness, injury, or unsoundness

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of professional experience as a veterinarian and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or a Veterinariae Medicinae Doctoris (VMD) from an American Veterinary Medical Association accredited college or university.
Special Requirements:
- All positions require possession of an active license to practice veterinary medicine as issued by a State Board of Veterinary Medicine.
- All employees must obtain an active license to practice veterinary medicine issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Veterinary Medicine within six months of hire.
- All positions must obtain United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Category II Accreditation within six months of hire.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
