Job Description

About This Opportunity
Judit Inc. is recruiting on behalf of one of our clients — a national post-acute care provider that operates inpatient rehabilitation and long-term acute care hospitals across the country. This is a full-time, permanent physician position with our client's hospital.

The description below is our client's overview of the role and the training and experience they're looking for. If you're interested but unsure whether your background fits, we still want to hear from you. Your Judit recruiter will walk you through the hospital location, schedule, call coverage, compensation, and next steps before anything moves forward.

What you'll do
You'll provide full-time physical medicine and rehabilitation care at an inpatient rehabilitation hospital, rounding, consulting, and leading each patient's rehabilitation plan from pre-admission through discharge. You'll report to the Chief Medical Officer on clinical matters and to the Hospital CEO (or designee) on administrative matters. You'll also help shape the hospital's patient care policies and teach its medical, nursing, and therapy staff.

Patient care

  • Evaluate, diagnose, consult on, and manage patients with physical and/or cognitive impairment and disability, including painful or functionally limiting conditions, co-morbidities, and co-impairments
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic injection procedures and electrodiagnostic medicine, with an emphasis on preventing complications of disability from secondary conditions
  • Examine pain, weakness, and numbness (neuromuscular and musculoskeletal), and prescribe treatment that may include physical agents or other interventions
  • Prescribe and supervise comprehensive rehabilitation goals and treatment plans
  • Assess, stabilize, and determine disposition of patients with emergent conditions, following Medical Staff Policy for emergency and consultative call
  • Admit patients to inpatient or other levels of care; perform history and physical exams, pre-admission assessments, and the day-4 plan of care review; review and approve pre-admission screenings
  • Round and consult on patients at your assigned hospital(s), providing prompt, courteous, competent care in line with accepted professional standards

Documentation and compliance

  • Prepare and maintain complete, accurate medical records that meet regulatory, legal, and accreditation standards, including Pre-Admission Screenings (PAS), Individualized Plans of Care (IPOC), progress notes documenting face-to-face visits, admission orders, and the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Patient Assessment Instrument (IRF-PAI)
  • Lead the interdisciplinary team conference
  • Maintain the records, reports, claims, and correspondence related to the care you provide

Quality and leadership

  • Work with facility leadership, staff, practitioners, and consultants to develop, implement, and evaluate patient care policies that reflect current standards of practice
  • Help identify and resolve medical and clinical issues that affect patient care, quality of life, or services provided by physicians and other licensed practitioners
  • Handle administrative duties as reasonably required

Teaching

  • Support medical education as requested, including curriculum development, supervision and performance evaluations, daily rounds, lectures, demonstrations, informal discussions, and continuing education for attending medical staff, nursing staff, and therapy staff

What you'll bring

  • M.D. or D.O. from an accredited medical school
  • Current state medical license
  • Completion of an ACGME- or AOA-accredited residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
  • Current practice in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
  • Leadership strengths in inclusiveness, stewardship and resource management, communication, decision-making, problem-solving, quality improvement, teamwork, and strategic planning and organizing

Nice to have

  • Board certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation from the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR) or the American Osteopathic Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AOBPMR), or active participation in the examination process leading to certification
