Job Description
Visa Research conducts Applied and FundamentalResearchandwas created to lead the company in pushing the boundaries of payment related technologies on a global scale. We engage with the company'snumeroustechnology and product teams, world-wide business partners, academics, and governments, to explore and develop technologies that will shape the future of the payments industry andimpactthe lives of billions of people.
The Staff Research Scientistwill work withfellowresearchersand cross-functionalpartnerstoadvance the long-term research agenda in quantum information and computation, helping deliver innovative technologies and insights to Visa's strategic products and businesses. The ideal candidate will focus onconducting advanced researchinone or moresubfields, for example,quantum error correction, quantumoptimization,quantum simulation,quantum machinelearning, distributed quantum computingand/orquantumsecurityand privacywith the aim ofapplyingtheir research outcomesto financial servicesand payments.Their workmayincludedeveloping and implementing quantum algorithms to address financial applications such as portfolio optimization, risk analysis, and derivative pricing.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter comfortable with ambiguity, with strong attention to detail, and excellent collaboration skills.
Essential Functions:
Conduct theoretical and practical research and development ina subfield of quantum information and computationwithstrongpotentialimplicationsforfinanceand payments.
Design and test novel algorithms and models to advancestate-of-the-art inquantum computing.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to exploreimpactfulapplications of quantum computing.
Stay updated with the latest advancements and breakthroughs intheirexpertiseareasandthebroaderfieldof quantum computing.
Publish research findings in top-tier conferences and journals.
Mentorinterns andcontribute to a collaborative research environment.
This is a hybrid position.Expectationofdays intheoffice will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.
Qualifications
Basic Qualification:
Ph.D. in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, ElectricalEngineeringora related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
3 or more years of work experience with a PhD in a relatedfield.
Solidtheoretical understanding ofthe fundamentals ofquantum mechanics, quantumcomputationand information.
Experience proposing novel quantum algorithmsin theirexpertisearea(e.g., inoptimization, machine learningand/orsecurityand privacy).
Experience with quantum programming platforms (e.g.,Qiskit, Cirq).
Software engineering skills, including coding, debugging, and version control (e.g., Git).
Experience deploying and testing algorithms onstate-of-the-artquantum hardware(e.g., superconducting, neutralatomsand/or trapped ion systems).
Nice tohave:experience in financial applications of quantum computing (e.g., risk analysis, derivative pricing.
Nice tohave:familiarity with classical finance models or financial engineering.

The estimated salary range for this positionis $169,100.00 to $ 270,800.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
