Position Summary

Under the direction of the Retail Pharmacy Manager, the Retail Pharmacist is responsible for all areas of retail pharmaceutical services for MMC, including procurement, distribution, storage, and administration of medications by appropriate staff. The Retail Pharmacist ensures that pharmacy services are compliant with all State and Federal regulations.

 

Position Qualifications

  • Licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of California.
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. from an ACPE-accredited college of Pharmacy.
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Meets requirements of federal, state, and local laws governing retail pharmaceutical services.
  • Maintains required annual continuing education hours to ensure competence.
  • Strong collaboration skills across organizational levels.
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, written, and oral communication skills.

Position Responsibilities

  • Compounds and dispenses prescribed medications.
  • Reviews prescriptions for accuracy and determines required formulas/ingredients.
  • Directs pharmacy staff in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.
  • Provides counseling on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage.
  • Engages patients in customer service and program integration initiatives.
  • Maintains quality assurance, controlled substance security, and hazardous waste disposal procedures.
  • Manages pharmacy files, charge systems, and inventory.
  • Instructs interns and technicians per state/federal law.
  • Resolves third-party Rx system issues promptly.
  • Reports prescription errors immediately per policy.
  • Implements loss prevention controls.
  • Builds strong relationships with physicians and healthcare professionals.
  • Pursues continuing education and stays current with laws, regulations, and programs.
  • Responds promptly to customer needs while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Maximizes sales and controls expenses.
  • Ensures pharmacy policies are current and consistent.
  • Contributes to team spirit, adapts to change, and communicates effectively.
  • Observes safety/security procedures and maintains daily housekeeping standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including technician-related tasks when necessary.
